New Passion

“DREAMS Families Matter Program Activated My Passion In working with Adolescents Girls in Makeni” Says Glenda.

Her mother left her with her siblings for 6 months, as she would go farming in Mkushi district. Mkushi district is about 400 kilometers away from Lusaka and is known for its large commercial agricultural operations and boast a substantial population of expatriate farmers.

During the farming season, back home in Makeni villa of Lusaka city, Glenda would assume the responsibility of taking care of her siblings in a home classified as Child Headed Household. Before Families Matter Program, Glenda used to have challenges in communicating with her young sisters and brother on issues pertaining to sexuality. This was a big challenge because she also needed guidance, as she was only 20 years old in 2016.

But one day Glenda came to learn about families matters program through her aunt who used to visit her and she was encouraged to register into the program so that she could have more knowledge and skills on how to communicate with her siblings on sex and reproductive health and stay focused on their life goals. Glenda successfully enrolled herself under Families Matter Program in Makeni Villa at Reformed Church in Zambia. She successfully completed her training and now communicating effectively with her siblings and adolescents from the community.

With the FMP certification Glenda now, has a working contract DREAMS Program under Young Women Christian Association as a Connector. She manages six mentors with 300 Adolescent Girls, Young Women in DREAMS Makeni site! She attributes her success with FMP training. Glenda’s mother also had successfully trained in Families Matter Program reported that she was influenced by her daughter’s good character.

Story 2

Glenda is so grateful to the FMP under ECR and all DREAMS partners for helping young girls in her community. She is blending well because she has a passion to serve girls she said.
